Artist Statement

Amanda M. Franqui

Throughout all of my artwork there are a big variety of mediums that are put into it. Either it being a illustration, painting or a photograph the styles go into dark themes and constant expressive works that'll get you to think. Wondering and figuring out theses images within it's whole meaning. Almost all my work have a cartoony or anime touch to it. My inspiration came from subcultures like goth, punk and emo. Also the first time I ever watched anime as a little kid.
Interpretations of death, sorrow and actions of society are placed and combined into one, revealing mixed feelings. Artists like Alister Dippner ( Imamachinist), Bleedman, and DemiseMan inspired me so much with their sense of creativity that bended my ideas.

Concept of labyrinths (Response)

From reading the short story "The Library of Babel" in my opinion I believe that the concept of a labyrinth is that it has a virtual reality interface allowing one to wander through out it. The library could be compared with a computer. The computer is organized with the same process and represented as letters, numbers and space as an library and is infinite to fit what a library has. It has a sense of repetition, but a bit of change in different ways.

Matthew Barney ( Art Piece Response)

The piece I found the most interesting by Matthew Barney was the Guardian of the Veil: The Bonds that gag my mouth have been loosed by my city God (2007). Which was done in pen and white ink on black paper in a polyethylene frame

This piece popped out to me because of the way that the gray scaling is emitted within the art piece, allowing your eyes to depict the difference in contrast and focus on the many items in it. It seems to me that there is this whole spiraling action being done with the water and the objects it's carrying away. Some of these random objects are of some books, tires and a tree. Also the positioning is varied especially for the books as where you could see some open, tilted or the pages flipping. I believe the starting point at looking at this image is the tree because it is the brightest and just to follow on with the motion that is being carried out.

Doppelganger Series

Doppelganger time!!!

In the imagines above are of me portraying myself as Kaito (matryoshka)
While below is of Hatsune Miku while having a partner in crime to be portrayed as Kaito.
Bit by bit within the photos expressing various emotions and certain scenery

Myth of Icarus and Daedalus (Map piece)

Created a narrative map from the Greek myth, " The Myth of Icarus and Daedalus"

It show the maze of which Daedalus had designed of which the minotaur would be held in. I made this design to resemble some game references that in most include a mini map and a sort of # dimension view . Having a representation of the minotaur on the top left as if it is being treated as a boss in a maze level.

One Act Play

Worked directly from the model and created a mini short story

The shadows cast around the model representing all the negativity that flows from her mind where her head has happened to pop off from all the thoughts. This piece basically sums up how a person may feel in society. Being to insecure, nervous, over thinking negative of how people may view here. Just drowning in these shadows that are slowly consuming her, tearing her apart as a person until there is absolutely no self-esteem left.

Graphic Novel Analysis

The use of visuals have a sense of conjunction with the narrative. This is strongly supported by the graphic novel "5 Centimeters per second" story by Makoto shinkai and art by Yukiko Seike. In most of the panels it mainly focuses on the character's facial profiling and zooms in within anything of importance towards the story line. The art style itself is calm/sweet. Also on some of the panels it shows  the environment to show the sense of emotion either it being a crowed train or seeing calm waves coming in. Basically the scale of the images helps the eye see something more.

Lost Friend

My assignment for fine arts class at parsons given by Ken Millington. I drew everything with vine and compressed charcoal on bristol paper.
